What the judges said:
“All the nominees had a real impact in raising the profile, broadening the scope and increasing the profitability of the market research industry. The editorial team had a tough time hittling the shortlist down to our three winners. Our congratulations to go all who made the cut.”

Luke Perry RESEARCH PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

WINNER: Luke Perry

Luke organised and chaired a workshop session that was one of the most relevant, passionate eloquent, and practically-minded calls for an industry makeover that we have ever had the pleasure of attending. Luke has made quite a stir since his first appearance at conference. After having initiated this stimulating debate, he has clearly marked himself out as a research leader of the future. Luke realised that the industry was failing to attract and retain the talent it needs, and he did something about it. He’s one to watch and he’s one to listen to.

FINALISTS:

  • Viki Cooke and Deborah Mattinson, OLR
  • Barry Sheerman MP

Poster: Make Britain Proud: Back the BidRESEARCH CLIENT OF THE YEAR

WINNER: London 2012 Bid Team

The bid team realised that harnessing public opinion and wooing the neutral were key to a successful pitch. The bid team commissioned research to better understand the nature, and depth of the public’s support. Mike Lee, director of communications for London’s Bid, told us, “Research played an important role in helping us to hone our messaging. We were able to rally public support behind the bid, something which proved to be an important factor in winning on July 6.” A clear case of research playing a high-profile role in a high profile success story.

FINALISTS:

  • Unilever
  • UK Plc

Mike KirkhamRESEARCH MD/CEO OF THE YEAR

WINNER: Mike Kirkham

Despite his lofty position, Mike is still respected as a research pioneer of note. He recently announced that he is to step down as chief executive, after five years of service. In a market full of often wobbly mergers, he steered through a successful marriage with NFO and has held it together subsequently. He’s certainly made a splash in the City: TNS recently made the financial pages of the Independent when its shares were strongly tipped. He is the perfect example of an influential researcher who, with great success, rose through the ranks and of a research talent making a highly positive impact on the bottom line.
