New interactive sessions announced for RESEARCH2003

Date: 24 January 2003

The Market Research Society (MRS) has today announced a programme of exciting and varied sessions for its annual Conference, 'RESEARCH2003 - the thought leadership: revolution'. A combination of think tanks, workshops and interactive forums will sit alongside the formal speaker sessions, providing the opportunity for creativity, inspiration and debate.

New for this year's Conference, Research International will be giving attendees the chance to voice their opinions on the industry's 'Big Issues'. At specially-devised sessions to be held throughout the first day of RESEARCH2003, some of RI's most experienced qualitative researchers will be seeking opinions from delegates on what they consider to be the most pressing issues for the industry, such as where it should be heading in the future and how it should be getting there. Key topics likely to be under discussion will include concerns over talent drain, career opportunities and employee retention.

In addition, these4Walls, the networking group established specifically for young people, will be involved in running a new fringe session for younger members of the research and marketing industries. This innovative session will give young delegates the chance to share their views on why they chose the industry, what more could be done to attract more graduates and how they view their career development.

In the run up to and during Conference, ELUCIDATION will be hosting a series of think tanks giving researchers the opportunity to become the respondents. Participation will be encouraged in two distinct groups - 40+ year old 'Baby Boomers' and the 20+ year old 'Generation X' - to see just how much the industry is changing and gain an insight into the thought leaders of the future.

For the first time at an MRS Conference, research users will be given specific guidance on getting the most from research. On Thursday morning, Hall & Partners will lead two specially-designed workshops on how users should consolidate knowledge for the bigger picture and how research findings can best be communicated through their organisations.

RESEARCH2003 will this year also include a Speakers' Corner. During lunch and other break-times, delegates will have the opportunity to sign up to get on the Soap Box, alongside the scheduled speakers who will include Denis Pirie, Barbara Lee, Linda Neville, Warwick Cairns and Peter Fenton-O'Creevy.

Andy Dexter, Citigate DVL Smith and Chair of the Conference Programme Team, commented, "This year's event has so much to offer delegates, both research practitioners and users. Through a mix of formal papers, break-out sessions, seminars and debates, RESEARCH2003 will provide the ideal forum for discussion and debate, whilst a range of informal social activities will provide the opportunity for networking too. It is undoubtedly the 'must attend' event for the research and marketing industries."
