Big names and hot topics headline Research 2006Date: 10 November 2005 Controversy, cutting-edge thinking and workshops with a twist – the programme for Research 2006 Connections won’t disappoint. The MRS’ flagship annual conference boasts the most impressive line-up yet, including high-profile speakers from across the marketing spectrum who will chair a wealth of thought-provoking conference sessions. Research 2006 Connections is being held at the Barbican, London, from 22-24 March 2006. As the 49th MRS Annual Conference, it follows in the footsteps of this year’s popular Research 2005 Reconstructions event, promising delegates an informed and lively approach to maximising the value of research whilst focussing on strengthening the links between industry stakeholders. Headlining the event are keynote speakers Richard Reed, co-founder of Innocent Drinks and entrepreneur extraordinaire, and Adrian Furnham, professor of psychology at University College London and corporate research expert. Between them, these captivating speakers will approach the role of research from two very different viewpoints, providing a fascinating insight into the breadth and depth of research applications – and how research connects to business in very different ways. Kevin McLean, conference programme chair, comments: “Our focus this year is on helping delegates connect with the aspects of the industry which offer them the most – whether it be through attending inspiring keynote sessions, getting involved in debates or making use of the new expert briefings and training workshops. Both are new introductions for this year, and cover topics including ‘knowing your blogs from you pods - everything you need to know about new media‘, ‘beyond the debrief’, ‘career development’ and ‘using police interviewing techniques in research’.” Client participation is key at Research 2006, with companies from the BBC and McDonalds to Nokia and Sky Media taking part in sessions (see notes to editors for all participating companies). With the buzzword being ‘connections’, the many successful, agency-client partnerships profiled at the conference will highlight the increasing importance of relationships in today’s research practices. One aspect of the event that everyone will be talking about is the ‘Word of Mouth’ session on day one which draws on these relationships, and is already attracting attention by promising a fresh and exciting take on this current industry hot topic. In addition to providing new insights and progressive thinking from across the research arena, Research 2006 Connections offers delegates excellent social and networking opportunities. The Conference officially opens on the evening of Wednesday 22 March with a drinks reception in the Barbican’s conservatory. This will be followed by the Connections party on the Thursday night at the Brewery on Chiswell Street. Throughout the conference there will also be frequent opportunities for delegates to network in The Hub in the centre of the Barbican. Sophie Russell-Ross, Conference Manager, MRS, concludes: “This year’s MRS conference offers delegates access to some of the finest minds in the industry. Whether you are interested in hearing Richard Reed talk about how he created a £15m company in just five years, using no more than a creative idea and an irreverent research technique, or want to hear Professor Adrian Furnham – ranked as the world’s second most productive psychologist since 1980 – share his thoughts on fun at work and life without a mobile phone, Research 2006 provides something for everyone. It is an excellent opportunity to make new contacts and broaden your professional knowledge at the same time.” Delegates booking and paying for their conference tickets before 6 January 2006 qualify for a special ‘Early Bird Discount.’ Concessions are also available.
