Introduction to Sampling

Objective

This course enables you to:

  • Understand how to generate samples which are fit-for-purpose for ones research project in hand, whether for face-to-face, telephone or postal data collection;
  • Be aware of the implications of working with data derived from samples.

  • The stages associated with sample generation;
  • Sample sources;
  • Sampling methodologies;
  • The concept of statistical reliability and confidence intervals;
  • Survey weighting and minimisation of biases;
  • How to assess whether differences / changes are statistically significant
  • The difference between percentage, mean and net scores.
